Just about every automaker has a special year-end sales event, and most will use it as they try to boost December's sales tally.

Chrysler is touting its Big Finish event, Ford is telling customers to Dream Big, Toyota has its Toyotathon sales event, and Hyundai is pushing its Sonata midsize sedan with Hyundai Holidays. Even BMW has its Happier New Year Event, to counter Mercedes-Benz's Winter Event.

    The big gainer of the day was domestic solar-panel producer First Solar (NASDAQ: FSLR  ) which skyrocketed -- and I do mean skyrocketed -- 45.5% after announcing its 2013 fiscal guidance and providing a rough outlook through 2015. For 2013, First Solar is forecasting revenue of $3.8 billion to $4 billion on EPS of $4 to $4.50, which is well ahead of the $3.17 billion and $3.60 consensus on the Street. First Solar's 2014 forecast of $2.50 to $4 in EPS and a midpoint of $3.75 billion in revenue was in line with to slightly above expectations. Finally, its 2015 projections of $4 to $6 in EPS on $4.2 billion to $4.8 billion in revenue blew away current estimates calling for $3.37 in EPS and $3.7 billion in revenue. Clearly, the role reversal away from low-cost Chinese manufacturers to higher-efficiency, lower-debt domestic manufacturers is well under way.

But a recent Bankrate.com study suggests that a big reason many American don't save, even for emergencies, is because they have far too much health care debt. It's not exactly news that many Americans aren't financially ready for an emergency, let alone for retirement. But a quarter of people completing the Bankrate survey reported that their medical debt was higher than their emergency savings fund. By comparison, 51 percent said they had more in emergency savings, and 24 percent either didn't know or refused to answer. What that actually means is that 25 percent is, in fact, the lowest possible percentage among those surveyed with more medical debt than emergency savings -- the true percentage is likely higher. Depending on demographics, it gets worse. Among people who make less than $30,000, the percentage was 41 percent, and more than a third of parents with children under 18 had medical debt that outweighed savings. More Financial Stress "One of the messages we're always emphasizing is the need to have some cash in case of emergency," said Bankrate.com insurance analyst Doug Whiteman in an interview. "That's difficult for a quarter of Americans who have more medical debt than they have emergency savings. This is another cause of financial stress for a lot of people, like stagnant wages and school loans [also are]." And 55 percent said that they were either somewhat or very worried that they might not have affordable health insurance in the future. Half of men were worried, compared to 60 percent of women. Only 22 percent of all respondents weren't worried at all. Even the problem of medical debt doesn't affect you personally, it still does indirectly. "I think this is an important issue that affects consumer confidence and the broader economy," Whiteman said. "[People's worries] about their health insurance or medical cost[s] ... are additional reasons why they might hold back on their spending, which is something the economy needs to keep powering forward." Best Telecom Companies For 2014

Anybody who wants to buy an iPhone in Russia needn't bother going to any of the Russian mobile operators. VimpleCom (NASDAQ: VIP  ) , the last Russian telecom offering the iPhone, has just hung up on Apple (NASDAQ: AAPL  ) , according to Russian language website Hi-Tech Mail.

VimpleCom, a joint venture of Norwegian telecom Telnor and the Russian Alfa Group, operates under the BeeLine brand in Russia. BeeLine has joined the two other ex-iPhone carrying Russian heavyweight mobile carriers, Megafon and Mobile TeleSystems (NYSE: MBT  ) , and not renewed its iPhone contract with Apple.

The three Russian carriers all had signed up to carry the iPhone in 2008, but high import taxes pushed the price of the iPhone above $900 in a country that bans subsidies. And Apple wouldn't cut any special deals with the operators.

"Apple wants operators to pay them huge money, subsidizing iPhones and their promotion in Russia," MTS CEO Andrei Dubovskov told the Seattle Times in an interview. "Now it's not beneficial for us. It's good we stopped selling the iPhone as these sales would've brought us a negative margin."

Internet Services

The Company�� Internet services include asymmetric digital subscriber line (ADSL), very high speed digital subscriber line (VDSL), Ethernet and fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) services under the QOOK Internet brand name; wireless local area network (LAN) service under the Nespot brand name, which is designed to integrate fixed-line and wireless services by offering high speed wireless Internet access to laptops, personal digital assistants (PDAs) and smart phones in hot-spot zones and QOOK Internet service in fixed-line environments, and WiBro Internet access service, which enables two-way wireless broadband Internet access to portable computers, mobile phones and other portable devices at a speed averaging one megabits per second per user. The other Internet-related services focus primarily on providing infrastructure and solutions for business enterprises, as well as IP-TV and network portal services. It operates seven Internet data centers located throughout the Republic of Korea and provide a range of computing services to companies which need servers, storages and leased lines. Internet data centers are facilities used to house, protect and maintain network server computers that store and deliver Internet and other network content, such a! s Web pag! es, applications and data.

The Internet data centers offer network outsourcing services, server operation services and system support services. The network outsourcing services include co-location, which is the installation of the customers��network equipment at the Internet data centers. Bizmeka is an applied application service provider, which provides business solutions, including customer database management and electronic data interchange.

The Company also offers high definition video-on-demand and real-time broadcasting IP-TV services under the brand name QOOK TV. The IP-TV service offers access to a range of digital media contents, including movies, sports, news, educational programs and television replay, for a fixed monthly fee. As of December 31, 2009, the Company had 1.2 million QOOK TV subscribers.

The data communication service involves offering lines, which allow point-to-point connection for voice and data traffic between two or more geographically separate points. It provides broadband Internet connection service to institutional customers under the Kornet brand name.

Spot-Market Propylene Sales

Through the Company�� integrated pipeline system, the Company accesses other consumers of propylene, which it is able to supply on a spot basis with its excess production capacity. It manages its contract and spot portfolio.

Hydrogen Gas Sales

As part of the PDH process, the Company produces commercial quantities of hydrogen. Hydrogen is consumed in refinery processes, including fuel desulphurization.

C4 Mix/C5+ Streams Sales

The Company produces commercial quantities of C4 mix/C5+ streams. It sells the C4 mix stream to specialty chemical consumers or refiners and these customers tran! sport the purchased volumes from its facility by truck. The C5+ stream, which is heavy in aromatics, is transported by its pipeline to a Kinder Morgan terminal, and then sold to Texas Aromatics for use in the chemical or gasoline markets.

    One under-$10 technology player that's starting to trend within range of triggering a major breakout trade is On Track Innovations (OTIV), which designs, develops and markets contactless microprocessor-based smart card solutions to customers in Africa, Europe, the Far East, the Americas and Israel. This stock has been red hot over the last three months, with shares up a whopping 134%.

    If you take a look at the chart for On Track Innovations, you'll notice that this stock has been trending sideways and consolidating over the last month and change, with shares moving between $2.70 on the downside and $3.74 on the upside. Shares of OTIV have now started to spike higher off some near-term support at $3 a share and it's quickly moving within range of triggering a major breakout trade above the upper-end of its recent sideways trading chart pattern.

    Traders should now look for long-biased trades in OTIV if it manages to break out above its 52-week high at $3.74 a share with high volume. Look for a sustained move or close above that level with volume that hits near or above its three-month average volume of 626,538 shares. If that breakout triggers soon, then OTIV will set up to enter new 52-week-high territory, which is bullish technical price action. Some possible upside targets off that breakout are $4.50 to $5.50 a share.

    Traders can look to buy OTIV off weakness to anticipate that breakout and simply use a stop that sits just below some key near-term support levels at $3.20 or at $3 a share. One can also buy OTIV off strength once it starts to clear its 52-week high at $3.74 a share with volume and then simply use a stop that sits a comfortable percentage from your entry point.
