Hot Trucking Stocks To Buy For 2015

The first quarter of 2014 is coming to a close, and it was a slow one for MLP IPOs. The only MLP that debuted in the last three months wasCypress Energy Partners(NYSE: CELP), but there are several others in the pipeline. Here is how the IPO landscape looks as we end Q1.

Cypress debuted on Jan. 14 as the first MLP IPO of 2014. It sold 3,750,000 units at $20 per unit. CELP is a growth-oriented MLP providing saltwater disposal and other water and environmental services to US onshore oil and natural gas producers and trucking companies in North Dakota and west Texas. The partnership agreement calls for a minimum quarterly distribution of $0.3875 per unit for each whole quarter, or $1.55 per unit on an annualized basis. At Friday closing price of $21.87, that translates into an annualized yield of 7.1 percent.

The next IPO may be Enable Midstream Partners, which was formed in May 2013 as a joint venture by affiliates of CenterPoint Energy, OGE Energy and ArcLight Capital Partners. Enable Midstream Partners filed its S-1 with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) back in November, and the offering had been expected in the first quarter of 2014. Anamended registration formwas filed on Friday.

    All natural
An obvious place to start is coal's biggest competitor, natural gas. For a while now, I've been a fan of the natural gas compression company, Exterran Holdings (NYSE: EXH  ) , which provides operations, maintenance, service, and equipment for both oil and natural gas production. Exterran's stock has had a steady climb the last couple of years -- it's up over 40% this year alone. The majority of analysts are calling Exterran a hold, but several rate it a buy or even a strong buy. Currently, Exterran is trading in the upper $20 range, and with a price target of $33, it still seems to have some upside. And for those interested in investing in master limited partnerships, Exterran operates an MLP as well, Exterran Partners (NASDAQ: EXLP  ) , which has seen a 33% gain in its price this year.

One under-$10 clinical-state biopharmaceutical player that's starting to move within range of triggering a big breakout trade is Onconova Therapeutics (ONTX), which focuses on discovering and developing small molecule drug candidates to treat cancer. This stock has been destroyed by the short-sellers so far in 2014, with shares off sharply by 56%.

If you glance at the chart for Onconova Therapeutics, you'll notice that this stock has been trending sideways and consolidating right below its 50-day moving average for the last few weeks. This consolidation pattern is occurring right after shares of ONTX recently spiked sharply higher from its low of $4.10 to its high of $5.52 a share. Shares of ONTX are now trending within range of breaking out of that consolidation pattern and potentially heading higher.

Traders should now look for long-biased trades in ONTX if it manages to break out above its 50-day moving average of $5.09 a share and then once it takes out some more key overhead resistance levels at $5.24 to $5.52 a share with high volume. Look for a sustained move or close above those levels with volume that hits near or above its three-month average action of 203,756 shares. If that breakout triggers soon, then ONTX will set up to re-test or possibly take out its next major overhead resistance levels at $6.27 to $7 a share.

Traders can look to buy ONTX off weakness to anticipate that breakout and simply use a stop that sits right below some key near-term support levels at $4.75 to right around $4.50 a share. One can also buy ONTX off strength once it starts to take out those breakout levels with volume and then simply use a stop that sits a comfortable percentage from your entry point.

Ann Summa/Time Life Pictures/Getty ImagesThe Pets.com sock puppet has become synonymous with the dot-com bust. As an investor, you need to be smart about where you're putting your money to work. Investing your hard-earned cash in companies that won't use it well -- or in products that haven't proven themselves -- can quickly come around to bite you. Case in point? These 10 famous examples of investment gone horribly wrong: 1. DeLorean Motor Marty McFly's time-traveling adventures weren't the only juicy story featuring the futuristic DeLorean. The inventor of the car with cool side-opening doors from "Back to the Future was caught on tape during an FBI sting declaring the suitcase of cocaine he planned to sell was as "good as gold." The cocaine, worth $24 million, was John DeLorean's last-ditch attempt to save his floundering company from financial ruin. This (combined with charges of defrauding his partners) lost all trust he had with investors. The firm filed for bankruptcy in 1982. (An unrelated company using the same name services the 9,000 cars made.) 2. The Dutch Tulip Craze In the 1630s, the Dutch were flying high on the flowers recently introduced from Turkey. Tulip bulbs became a highly sought-after commodity, with one bulb going for the equivalent of an entire estate. Many investors got so excited that they sold everything they had to get in on the deal. But, like any craze, tulip mania came to an end. As more people started to grow tulips and prices began to lower, investors raced to sell, resulting in an economic depression that still serves as a warning today. 3. Charles Ponzi The famous swindler, whose name is now synonymous with scams, did his dirty dealings back in the 1920s. Cashing in on people's desire to get rich quick, Charles Ponzi wasn't the first to run a pyramid scheme, but he was the first to get so good at it people took notice. His racket involved enticing investors to buy discounted foreign postal reply coupons, which they coul

Nomura Securities reported that it has upgraded financial services company Barclays PLC (BCS) to “Buy.”

The firm has lifted its rating on BCS two notches from “Reduce” to “Buy.” Normura has also raised its price target from 260p to 340p.

Analyst Chintan Joshi commented: “With growth in the developed world likely to continue well into the start of next year, stocks geared to capital markets should see macroeconomic support. Structural issues are an industry feature and Barclays could still come out better relative to peers compared with its current position. We expect 2015 ROTE of c12% and believe Barclays should be valued at a 2014E P/TB of 1x as we look for 1Q14 momentum. We set our ex-rights target price at 340p (cum rights it would be 380p), which puts the stock at a 2015E P/E of 6.4x, which is hardly demanding. Barclays is now our top pick among its IB and UK peers and a preferred way to gain exposure to the current risk rally. We upgrade our rating on Barclays to Buy from Reduce. We believe investors waiting for the infamous J curve may find that it is fairly muted for Barclays on the downside.”

Barclays shares were up 27 cents, or 1.40%, during pre-market trading Monday. The stock is up 11% YTD.

The first thing to realize about StoneMor is that arcane and flexible accounting rules make it important to dig beneath its GAAP earnings. Growth throughout the industry has been substantial, as up-and-coming Carriage Services (NYSE: CSV  ) continued to stay on pace for double-digit sales growth as it rapidly expands its reach. Even well-established player Matthews International (NASDAQ: MATW  ) managed to grow revenue by nearly 14% in the quarter that ended in March, although its earnings fell slightly from the year-ago quarter. Still, StoneMor's sales haven't been able to rise as quickly as its peers, with its previous report including just a 6% gain in revenue.

Getty Images From a door-to-door selling icon stocking up on blush after a disappointing quarter to several hotel chains checking in with strong occupancy trends, here's a rundown of the week's smartest moves and biggest blunders in the business world. Hotels -- Winners Hoteliers were apparently hopping during the first quarter. Despite the iffy weather and the equally iffy economy, the leading chains reporting this week posted surprisingly robust activity. Revenue per available room is a key metric because it tracks occupancy levels as well as prevailing overnight rates. The industry's doing well when RevPAR is positive, and that's just what we saw with this week's reports. Choice Hotels (CHH), Marriott (MAR), and Hyatt (H) clocked in with RevPAR increases of 5.6 percent, 6.3 percent and 6.5 percent, respectively. Twitter (TWTR) -- Loser Shares of Twitter hit an all-time low this week after the company posted disappointing user growth. Sure, the "all-time low" remark needs to be accompanied by the caveat that Twitter has only been trading publicly for less than six months. It's still a grim milestone for last year's most anticipated debutante. Twitter's revenue growth was fine, propelled by the recent success of its monetization initiatives. Its outlook was upbeat. However, the one thing that haunted investors this week was that Twitter had just 14 million more unique monthly visitors than it had a quarter earlier. That kind of sequential uptick would've impressed at most companies, but Twitter trades at a juicy premium to the market. #Letdown. J.C. Penney (JCP) -- Winner The struggling department store operator isn't out of the woods just yet, but at least one supplier is offering up encouraging insight. PVH (PVH) was presenting at an investor conference in Miami earlier in the week when its CEO offered up an encouraging perspective.
